The Albanian National Theatre has decided to initiate the project of staging the play “FRANK THE FIFTH” by one of the most outstanding Swiss and European theatre authors of the XX century - Friedrich DURRENMATT. We consider that this production, through the communication with the political and social reality of the Albanian society, will achieve a strong impact and a high resonance. Also, we are deeply committed to its esthetical and ideological values.
For staging the play Frank V, we will engage our best creative potentials of our institution. We feel really enthusiastic for this initiative, because the author is well known to the Albanian audience through the play “Visit of the old lady”. This play has been widely welcomed by the Albanian audience and this is one of the main reasons why we would like to perform another important work of this author. In these circumstances we express our conviction that this production will be deeply appreciated by our art lovers and audience.

Theatre production of the play “Uncle Vanya” by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. The play is to be staged by the world-famous director and university professor Slobodan Unkovski, with participation of acclaimed actors from the region as follows: Enver Petrovci, Ndricim Xhepa, Bajrush Mjaku, Marko Bitraku etc. The project is foreseen as cooperation between Macedonia (“Bajrush Mjaku Theatre”, Skopje), Kosovo (Ministry of Culture) and Albania (“Kronos Theatre”, Tirana). The rehearsal period will take place in “Bajrush Mjaku Theatre”, Skopje. The play will be staged in venues in Skopje (“Bajrush Mjaku Theatre ), Tirana (National Theatre). Prishtina (National Theatre Pristine), and number of other international scenes of acclaimed theatre festivals. Chekhov's playwriting has greatly changed the course of theatre history. One of his most famous plays is “Uncle Vanya”. The play mirror’s life itself. In fact, it looks at life beyond its surface. Thus, all contradictions and infinite interpretations of life, harmless as they seem at first, come at a certain price. The characters in “Uncle Vanya” wander under the sunlight full of hopes and greet the disquieting darkness full of fear. One can feel the presence of a desire for change. We feel it strong among these people and their quotidian routines. The play is not a prescription, but a diagnose. It may be tragic, absurd, or even funny, but it is the struggle of these persons. “Their life may be their last struggle”.

Stage production of the theatre play “Koha per tu cmendur” (It is Time to go Crazy), written by an acclaimed Albanian writer, directed by Gezim Kame, and stage design by Kico Lala, music by Aleksander Lalo. Several of the most prominent actors in Albania will take part.
The level of democratic emancipation in our society is at times infantile, fragile, and deformed. Human rights are ignored, whereas violence, drugs, crime and organised crime, are seldom accounted for.
At present, it is a wide spread belief that a good-natured and righteous person is doomed to fail amidst the chaos of dirty business, illegally accrued wealth, fake morality, and appraisal for material profits.
Under such circumstance, for the main character (Zyberi) going crazy is a means to set himself free. In this way he will become the most normal person in what turns into a completely abnormal society.

In Albania, there are no published music scores of Albanian composers. Only several manuscripts and old poorly copied prints off are available, which makes them hard to work with.
It is very important for Albanian musicians to have this music published, to create the standards for professional conditions of work.
Also, the condition of these original manuscripts is deteriorating and the music is being lost. So, this would be a good service for the Albanian music heritage.
The brass quintet “Tirana” has selected and elaborated the scores of Albanian composers and has prepared these for publication. The scores will be used later on by the Albanian school of Wind Chamber Music.

We think that the exhibition of their work will create a more constructive spirit in the contemporary space of Albanian art, where sculpture is left behind or even forgotten.
The fundamental concepts of the exhibition remain the same: The artist ought to be free to express what they create, and they should not undergo the thematic oppression from the curator or the market.

It is our observation that one of the main problems that hinder the development of the art, especially the theatre, is the lack of vision for the future; of true artistic debate on its reality; of native dramaturgy- both from established professionals and young writers; of artistic experiments, as well as of reciprocal knowledge on developments in the performing arts from the region and Europe.
The Art & Colour Centre acknowledges the above-mentioned problems and tries to resolve them through critical intervention, of theatre art. A special focus is given to the staging process of various performances, directing, without leaving aside the institutional support (such as from the Ministry of Culture, local government) for the development of theatre.

This structure becomes more compact and united in one whole artistic work (picture), which through symbols and signs fused with the form turns the opportunity of expression of opinion in a direct or indirect visual way, become infinite.

The narrator is doing a counterpoint between the recitation and the projection of his image over tulle in real time. The relation between the narrator and the soprano decomposes by its own message and dramaturgy, building in this musical theatre the binomial between Light and Shadow, Spring and Winter, Life and Death, Love and Delusion, Transparency and Nebulosity, Hot Air and Cold Air.

"The Maids" is an ambitious premiere in the artistic season 2007-2008. This theatrical piece will open the month of Francophone culture with the premiere performance on March 29th.
This piece is an icon that expresses in the most completed way the theatre of Jean Genet. It is the icon of a human being, the prisoner in a glass labyrinth, the hostage of its outstanding reflections. He tries to find a way to communicate with other people but he can't, because of the glass walls. In the long list of the "Cursed poets" who hold the French literature from Vijoni to Santi, Jean Genet is certainly the strangest.
Genet based his play on the infamous Papin sisters, Lea and Christine, who brutally murdered their employer and her daughter in Le Mans, France, in 1933. The story can be read as an absurdist exposition on the intricate power dynamic that exists between the unequal. Solange and Claire are two housemaids who create sophisticated sadomasochistic rituals when their mistress (Madame) is away.
The focus of their Theatre is the murder of Madame and they take turns portraying either side of the power divide. The deliberate pace and devotion to detail guarantee that they always fail to actualise their fantasies by ceremoniously "killing" Madame at the ritual's denouement.

Romany culture has survived since the 13th century, when the first Roma tribes have been established around Europe.
Since that time, Roma culture has kept its originality, but, unfortunately, it has lost some of its identity. Actually, this danger still exists.
The originality of Romany culture is indeed very attractive, and it would be a sin to loose that very old culture, being transmitted from one generation to the next.
Our organisation “Amaro Dives”, which is the oldest Roma organisation in Albania, has been working and is continues to work with all its capacities
The participation in this very important meeting in Slovenia, where we will also discus about the situation of Romany culture, is very important for the Albanian Roma community, which consists of more than 120,000 Roma.

The POETEKA literary review is well consolidated in both its physiognomy and editorials. Nevertheless, the upcoming issue foresees to introduce two novel elements.
The first new element deals with the publication of the verses written exclusively for POETEKA by the Nobel Prize winner poet and play-writer, Wole Soynka (Nobel Prize 1986). The Nobel Prize winner poet kindly presented POETIKA literary review a present in the form of a poem titled “A Vision of Peace” and written in 2005, which will be published in the authors’ hand writing facsimile accompanied by a translation in Albanian. These verses will be accompanied by an essay of Pirro Dollani, a professor of artistic scenarios at the University of Las Vegas, describing the way the poetry arrived on the table of POETEKA literary review. This kind present opens up the possibility of a positive response to the invitation the POETEKA board has forwarded to Wole Soyinka to participate in an edition of POETEKA International Festival of Poetry.
The second new element is the introduction of a new section: The Cities and the Artists. In its 11th issue, POETEKA literary review will be focused on the city of Milan and the professional life of artists who have resided there: Da Vinci, Manzoni, Giuseppe Verdi, Franz Listz, Goethe, etc. The section will continue to receive contributions also in future issues.

The creation of a high quality website to reflect overall teaching and artistic activity of this institution inside the country, and abroad, is an absolute necessity of the Academy of Arts. It will rank the Academy of Arts among the contemporary worldwide art schools.
The contemporary form and content changes in the educational system, as a result of Bologna Declaration implementation, make the actual website an entirely useless one. It aims at giving full information about institutional structure, all training programmes, curricula, student life and academic activities, publications, admission policy practices, on-line students’ application, projects, international cooperation, etc.
The existing website, www.akademiaearteve.edu.al, does not meet the requirements of being a useful tool for students, teachers and administrative staff of the Academy of Arts.
Lacking almost all the items mentioned above, the existing site needs radical changes.
The recent changes in the Albanian educational system need a new form and content.

It is difficult to imagine a play with more relevance to the life in modern-day Kosovo than Dürrenmatt’s “The Visit” (common English translation of “Der Besuch der alten Dame”.) This tale of community, trust, revenge and corruption remains a mainstay of Western theatre fifty-two years after its publication. In this play, Dürrenmatt constructed a fictional town whose inhabitants must decide whether to murder a prominent citizen in exchange for financial gain.
The themes of guilt and greed are universal, but certain aspects of “The Visit“ have even more special resonance for Kosovo today: a decaying city, revenge, justice, rule of law, bankruptcy, familial and civil obligations, government corruption, the unintended social and economic side-effects of financial donations, and the role of women in society are all scrutinized.
Productions will take place in the Mitrovicë Culture Centre. Performances will be followed by audience discussions, allowing community members and artists the opportunity to engage in a dialogue about the production and the societal issues it address.
Technical rehearsals will be continued in “Teatri Oda” in Prishtinë, with performances tentatively scheduled for August 3 and 4.
With the assistance of critically acclaimed proponents of adventurous and experimental theatre from the United States, Catastrophic Theatre, the project will develop a production of “Der Besuch der alten Dame” by Swiss playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt that, in its development and performance, addresses key social issues that Kosovo faces today.

Curators from the Balkans, Eastern, Northern, and Western Europe will discuss – in public and closed sessions – the current ability to be critical, as well as the common goals of the "trans-national community", not at last by reporting about the social reality in their own local art scenes. Love in this context is not regarded as romantic, but a political ideal: as the only possible, radical expression of (self)-awareness. How does this ideal fit in with our world of production and distribution, migration and mobility, as well as the idea of the absence or the freedom from religion? What does the alleged (standardized) Western democracy want from us, and what are we ready to give? What can the goal of the critical be, after all?

This documentary aims to analyze the way of how people in this town (Prishtina) physically orient themselves, what is for them the main object or building for their orientation. Using the names of the street is definitely not the way they orient themselves.
In the past decade names of streets were changed several times, therefore it seems that nobody uses names of streets for orientation.
The short documentary film “Lost Orientation” will help the society and institutions working on this problem, present for a few years now. The issue problem of orientation can be avoided only if the Prishtina Municipality in joint work with the Ministry of Spatial Planning created a strategic project on naming and renaming of streets.

The play was well received; critics found it both dramatically engaging and historically sensible (given the number of societies around the world facing painful legacies of repressive regimes).
“Death and the Maiden” is valued as a dramatic work that examines psychological repercussions of human rights abuses.

State Central Archive repositories in Tirana, Albania, have numerous animated movies produced by Albanian authors from Kino Studio in collaboration with foreign artists. Even though it is considered that the number of Albanian animation artists has decreased considerably through time, this was not the case in the period between 1975 and 1990 when creativity in this media was in its full swing.
Given that animation is considered to have the biggest impact on education and identity development amongst children, we believe that it is important to present a retrospective of these creations to the contemporary audience of Kosovo.
After viewing the entire collection, two selectors will chose several animations that would best represent a retrospective of animated movies produced at that time. Finally, the selection will be brought to Kosovo and screened at DOKUFEST as a special programme.

Kosovo is going through transition. Once a part of a country ruined under malicious regime, it is now free and democratic.
The project is about capturing scenes of that process by portraying residents of the country and their immediate surrounding. It is a whole new experience for them, especially after the declared independence. Transformations are colossal in every aspect of life .
The project is not intended to have a documentary purpose or visually enjoyable sights; it is more about the personal view.
This is an ongoing project. In its first two parts the author focused on finding interesting people, portraits, asking questions about subjects’ individuality, cultural orientation, or their social state. As the background plays important part in making the image, it is carefully selected before putting the subject in front of it. With the landscapes or cityscape - abandoned spaces, land and store for hire, or car junk by the roadside - this series’ intention was to make a visual tension that gives us the sense of economic and social damage, which is a consequence of war and political turbulence. By combining those two categories (portrait, landscapes) even though they are different, the author is trying to get a balanced story. The project is meant to be seen as a whole, not as individual works.
The third part of project will be a continuity of previous series. The exception this time is the additional focus on remains of old industrial buildings and buildings from the previous era which are still in use, and the mixture of new and old architecture inside the existing narratives.

Combining the stories of these “healers” and the people who attend and believe in these methods of healing, this documentary will bring to the screen a unique and off-the-page phenomenon to the mainstream audience. Moreover, it will have an analytical approach to the phenomenon through in depth interviews with the healers trying to unravel the foundations of their belief system and their practices. The film will have an artistic and experimental look throughout, and will be character based. The stories of both the healers and patients will be the guiding ones throughout the film, which will end in a very surreal way.

The project will have a several walk-through areas, making the audience participate as performers. The aim is to challenge the audience to reflect on their development and experiences gathered throughout their life by getting them to recognise the cognitive stages of their evolution which have transformed them into who they are now.
The concept revolves around identification of our cultural markers that will be represented through every piece. Particular attention was given to representing females’ expressions and participation in society. Their fascinations with authority, as well as their naked ambition, were hopefully captured through these pieces.
The objective is to instill confidence about who we are and to appreciate that the other side of us is different and acceptable.
This project will be an attempt to get the Kosovo audience, in general, and Kosovo women, in particular, to reflect on themselves and their lives. This will be achieved by getting them to confront different stages of their developments visually, thus separating the exhibition into several separate pieces of art-work.

The Lament is an expression of a deep sadness, sorrow, pain, for the lost of a beloved. The participants of the Lament are traditionally female persons; Phaedra, Medea, Ariadne, Dido, these are the mythical heroines of the Lament. Some of the greatest composers found the deepest expression of their art especially in the musical form “Lament”. The two female characters in the performance would function like an ego and an alter-ego, embodying the woman as the mother and the lover, while the male ballet-dancer would embody the man as the defunct husband, the forbidden lover, the cruel stranger who, to thank the girl who helped him, has left her to die in despair on a desert island. It will take place in a small, intimate and empty space, as a “pendant” of the closed space of naked grief and despair. Participants in the performance are: Helene Angelovska - voice, Alexandra Kocovska – ballet dancer, Daniel Agelkovic – ballet dancer, and Gordana Dean Pop-Hristova - choreographer.

“Mantra Discreation” is a vocal-instrumental composition (written for female choir, percussion, piano, organ and computer), inspired by the current political aspirations of the Republic of Macedonia, concerning its long-year goal to join the EU and NATO. The main aspect of these aspirations, which inspired the writing of this work, is the actual repetitiveness of these two abbreviations that still “echo” in the media every single day in the last few years, and thereby CREATE a MANTRA in a citizen’s mind, without giving him/her the freedom of choice. The work has already been fully composed by Aleksandar Pejovski and its performance will surely affect the audience in the most constructive way.

The DVD projection shows 150 photographs that the artist took in front of the building during his visit in Washington D.C. He became a witness of many humorous and exhausting attempts of the tourists to have a photograph in front of the famous ‘slogan’. The second part will consist of four TV monitors presenting short video statements about justice by three experts on human rights and law and an opinion poll of 12 citizens. Pairs, couples, trios, collectives, elected teams, and other form of collaborative groups, became an inevitable part in most of the international art projects. The project Collaborative Curating actually stems out of the regional workshop Curatorial Translation that took place in September 2007, when fifteen regional curators from SEE gathered in Skopje. The need for a developed format of collaborative projects of the newly established informal network of regional young curators, became one of the future theoretical and practical objectives of the group. The participants will discuss the philosophical concept “being singular plural” as it is formulated by Jean-Luc Nancy and how it can be applied while questioning the potentiality of the collective curatorial body. Collaborative Curating will be realised in partnership with BASA - Belgrade, SCCA –Ljubljana, and Stacion - Prishtina.
Note: The project was cancelled few months after the decision to be supported. The reason for this decision was the withdrawal of Suzana Milevska from the position of director of the Research Centre because of personal and professional reasons, and the institution’s lack of interest in implementing the project.

The exhibition should provoke a naïve, childish curiosity from the side of the audience to touch and play with the sculptures but at the same time the movements should stimulate the hidden emotions/aggressions, which, due to the social obstacles are accumulated in our minds and souls, causing the symptom of the "passive aggressive" behaviour.

The project of the young artist Dalibor Trencevski, “Monolith 2”, represents the moment of losing a single human being and its individuality, and his/her melting in the big crowd of people. The moment when each and every one of us realises that we are nothing but a part of one huge system. Visually, the project is inspired by the ancient Greek temple represented with a long corridor that ends with a monumental sculpture of God or Goddess. The sculpture is a faceless and sexless body without identity that has been lifted up and worshiped by its followers. The followers will be represented symbolically as 100 naked people that during the performance should recruit 100 more new admirers of the Goddess. Therefore, the audience will not only be in the role of observer, but will also be actively incorporated in the realisation of this idea. The whole flow of the performance will be dictated by the music of the band “White Noise in White Room” and by the video screenings showing the eyes of the sculptor.

The names of public institutions, personal names, languages, toponyms, and states have been changed in history for all the different (and often wrong) reasons. In several exhibitions and public discussions and workshops, the project Renaming Machine will encompass various art and cultural phenomena attached to “renaming” and “branding”, in order to explore the scale to which renaming affects visual culture and transgresses cultural identities and policies in the region. The collected materials will be published in a book that will be regionally and internationally distributed.

Her personal challenge is to establish trust and natural communication with these women, so they can openly talk about their most intimate thoughts and feelings. Dimitrievska would also like to deal with the institutions where they are placed, the prison and the home for blind people.

Balkan Literary Herald (Balkanski književni glasnik) is the region’s foremost literary periodical for new writing. Balkan Literary Herald is published on-line, and covers five sections: prose, poetry, drama / essay and Transversal (new world writing in translation). In the course of the year 2008, we will continue with our electronic publishing, but also be ready to publish quality selections from the past issues of BLH in printed form and distribute it to all the countries of the Balkans, to retail points as well as the library and University centres. 12 books by prominent Balkan authors are also ready for publication in 2008, in a series we have imagined as BLH Poetry Series, BLH Prose Series and BLH Essay Series.

Knowledge Smuggling! is a new long-term project with which we want to intervene in existing dominant system of knowledge production and exchange, which is usually regulated by educational institutions. With this project we work on creation of space for direct and free exchange of knowledge without intermediary and proprietary relations. Basic procedure of the work within the project is based on peer to peer principle, which means that everybody who offers something will be able to get some other knowledge in return.
